Choose by player level
Beginners and school players
Start with a 4U full-graphite racket strung at 22–24 lbs (₹1,500–₹3,000 range), a pair of non-marking court shoes, and a tube of Yonex Mavis 350 nylon shuttles for practice. Avoid aluminium and steel-shaft rackets at any price — they hold back technique. We've put together the working list of options in our badminton rackets under ₹3,000 guide.
Club and weekend players
The 4U full-graphite racket stays standard, but tension moves up to 24–26 lbs and you'll start replacing factory strings with proper Yonex BG65 or Exbolt 65. Add a thermal-lined kit bag for the summer. Most players settle here for years and the equipment serves them well. Detailed picks in our top 10 badminton rackets under ₹5,000.
Tournament and competitive players
Multiple rackets at different tensions (typically 26–30 lbs), feather shuttles (Yonex Aerosensa 30 or RSL Tourney No. 1 for tournaments, AS-2 for club matches), purpose-built badminton shoes with proper lateral support, and a 3-compartment tournament bag with full thermal lining. Custom stringing matters at this level — we string in our own workshop and you specify the tension at checkout.
Choose by brand
Yonex
Yonex is the default in India for a reason. Widest range across rackets, shuttles, strings, shoes and bags. Best after-sales support. Used by most international and Indian top players. The Astrox series is the smasher's racket, Nanoflare is the speed line, Arcsaber is the all-rounder. Mavis 350 is the world's most-sold nylon shuttle. BG65 is the world's most-sold string.
Li-Ning
Li-Ning has caught up to Yonex on technology and often beats Yonex on price for the same spec. Strong in rackets (Axforce, Bladex, Windstorm), shoes and tournament-grade kit bags. Most-recommended alternative when buyers don't have brand loyalty.
Victor
Victor has the smallest range of the big three but the strongest reputation among serious doubles players. Thruster Ryuga for power, Auraspeed for fast hands at the net. Their NCS Pro hybrid shuttle is one of the genuine equipment innovations of the last few years.
Other brands
Apacs and Woods cover the budget end with genuine full-graphite rackets and Japanese-grade strings at prices the big three can't match. Hundred is the most credible Indian-led brand and has grown rapidly through 2025-26. RSL is the second-most-used tournament shuttle in the world after Yonex. We stock all of them because no single brand is right for every player.
Why buy badminton equipment from SportsUncle
We've been selling badminton equipment online since 2016. Five things separate this from a general marketplace:
- Authentication on premium rackets and shuttles. Yonex products carry scratch codes and holograms; we verify before shipping. The Indian market has a real counterfeit problem on Yonex and Li-Ning — we deal with it directly so you don't have to.
- Pro stringing service before dispatch. Tell us your tension and string preference at checkout. The racket is strung in our Meerut workshop and arrives ready to play, not as a factory-strung frame you'll have to restring at a local shop.
- Honest expert advice. Our team plays badminton. The person on the other end of WhatsApp or a call has hit shuttles with most of the rackets we sell and will give you an opinion based on your style, not on margin.
- Real replacement policy. If a racket arrives broken in transit, we replace it on receipt of an unboxing video. Standing policy, not case-by-case.
- GST invoicing for clubs and academies. Bulk shuttle orders, racket batches and stringing for club teams are routine for us. Send a list, we'll send a quote.
Customer reviews for the items above are available on our SportsUncle reviews page.

Common questions
What badminton equipment do I need to start playing?
The minimum is a racket, a pair of non-marking court shoes, and shuttlecocks. Add a kit bag once you own more than one racket. A graphite racket between ₹1,500 and ₹3,000, basic indoor badminton shoes from Yonex, Li-Ning or Hundred, and a tube of Yonex Mavis 350 nylon shuttles will get a beginner through six months of regular play.
Why are non-marking shoes mandatory for badminton?
Indoor wooden and synthetic badminton courts are easily damaged by hard-soled shoes — running shoes, casual sneakers and trainers all leave marks and scuff the surface. Most clubs and academies in India enforce a strict non-marking-shoe rule. Beyond the venue policy, badminton shoes are built for lateral movement (the side-to-side cutting action of the sport), whereas running shoes are not. Wearing the wrong shoe is the most common cause of badminton ankle injuries. Our guide to non-marking shoes covers this in depth.
How much should I budget for a complete badminton kit?
For a beginner: ₹4,000–₹6,000 covers a racket, shoes, shuttles and a basic backpack. For a club player: ₹8,000–₹15,000 for a better racket, proper badminton shoes, a thermal kit bag and quality strings. For competitive play: ₹20,000+ across multiple rackets, premium shoes, tournament bag and feather shuttles — though spread over a year, not in one purchase.
What is the difference between feather and nylon shuttlecocks?
Feather shuttles fly more accurately and feel sharper but break in 1–2 games at club level. Nylon shuttles last 4–5 times longer, cost less per game, and handle outdoor conditions, but feel duller. Feather for tournaments and serious indoor play; nylon for practice, outdoor, school and casual games. Our feather vs nylon guide goes into the technical detail.
Are SportsUncle products original?
Yes — we are an authorised dealer for Yonex, Li-Ning, Apacs, Hundred, Young, Mizuno, and several other brands, and we source only through brand distributors. Yonex rackets feature holograms that are difficult to peel; Li-Ning rackets feature hologram verification numbers; Yonex shuttles have hologram seals on the tube. If a verification ever fails, we replace the product without argument.
Do you ship badminton equipment internationally?
Yes — rackets, shoes, kit bags and accessories ship worldwide. In some countries, customs officials sometimes restrict feather shuttles due to agricultural/poultry import rules. Email us with your destination country before ordering and we'll confirm rates and any restrictions.
Do you offer GST invoices for clubs and academies?
Yes. We supply clubs, academies, schools and corporate teams across India with GST-compliant invoicing as standard. For bulk orders — shuttles by the box, multiple rackets at one tension, kit bags for a team — email us with the requirement and we'll quote with the bulk rate.
